Cris Cyborg has addressed Dana White’s comments that she is ‘afraid to lose’ to Amanda Nunes again.
Former UFC women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg has fired back at Dana White’s claims that she is ‘afraid to lose’ against Amanda Nunes again.
Cyborg (20-2, 1NC) lost her first fight since 2005 when she was knocked out by Nunes in just 51-seconds at UFC 232 in December of last year. The Brazilian returns to the cage this weekend to fight the undefeated Felicia Spencer at UFC 240. Talking to TMZ earlier this week about White’s comments, Cyborg said she wasn’t surprised.
“You think I’m surprised when Dana says things like this? I’m not,” Cyborg said. “I’m gonna be surprised if Dana White says something nice for me. It’s not new for me. And just challenge, I go over there and do my best. (Transcription via MMA Fighting)
“Dana White’s never stepped in the cage. He never fight before, he doesn’t know the fighter life because he’s the promoter.”
Cyborg refused to answer any questions about a rematch with Nunes until after her fight this weekend against Spencer. The undefeated Canadian was successful in her first UFC appearance in May, submitting Megan Anderson in the first round.
“I fight Saturday and after Saturday, for sure I’m going to ask any question the media has for me. I think I have to it a step at a time, focus now on Saturday, my next fight, and my fans know who I am. My fans know if I’m scared. I’m going to [get through this fight] and then talk to media.”
UFC 240 takes place this Saturday night, July 27th, at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Canada. Cyborg vs. Spencer will serve as the co-main event, whilst Max Holloway will attempt to defend his UFC featherweight title against Frankie Edgar in the main event.
