Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is not taking any chances with its UFC 240 featherweight main event, bringing top-ranked 145-pound contender, Alexander Volkanovski, into Edmonton to weigh in as a potential replacement for the Max Holloway vs. Frankie Edgar title fight, headlining tomorrow night’s pay-per-view (PPV) fight card on ESPN+.
Both “Blessed” and “The Answer” made weight (full UFC 240 weigh-in results here) and probably won’t run into any unforeseen problems (like this), but the promotion tried to book this fight in the past to no avail, and Holloway did have an issue with his UFC 233 cut, so it was probably better to err on the side of caution.
Volkanovski (20-1) was likely to be in attendance anyway, as “The Great” is expected to fight the winner of Holloway vs. Edgar at UFC 243 this October in Melbourne. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him enter the cage tomorrow night for an impromptu face off.
No shit show, please.
