Former middleweight champion Michael Bisping doesn’t think the UFC will allow Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Floyd Mayweather to happen.
Former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping has given his take on talks of a crossover fight between boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather and UFC champ Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Bisping thinks the UFC wouldn’t allow their lightweight champion Nurmagomedov to step foot into a boxing ring with Mayweather because of contract stipulations in the UFC which prohibit fighters from competing in other organisations.
“Mayweather would win, we all know that, but it’s always interesting to see somebody at the top of mixed martial arts taking on a boxer,” Bisping told Omnisport. “But I don’t think that’s gonna happen, I really don’t.
”Mayweather talks about it, Khabib talks about it, I don’t think the UFC will allow it because we’re all under contract with the UFC.
This was pushed aside however when former lightweight and featherweight champion Conor McGregor made his boxing debut against Mayweather in August 2017, losing by tenth round stoppage. Bisping thinks that fight “broke the mold” which is why more fighters may want to crossover to boxing for a big payday.
”They broke the mold in doing that with McGregor, I think if they continue to do that and form a pattern then more and more fighters are going to want to do that and it starts creating legal problems with contracts and things like that.”
