Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) flyweight champion, Demetrious Johnson, continued his winning ways under the ONE Championship banner, thanks to Friday morning’s unanimous decision win over former DEEP champion Tatsumitsu Wada.
But it didn’t come easy.
“Mighty Mouse” had to overcome a significant height and reach disadvantage to advance to the grand prix finals and looked shaky in the opening round. That said, Johnson (29-3, 1 NC) eventually settled down and reclaimed the lead late in the fight.
Next stop? Danny Kingad on Oct. 13 at ONE: “Century” in Tokyo, Japan.
Kingad (11-1) squeaked by Reece McClaren by way of split decision during Friday’s action in Manila. “The King” is now the winner of six straight under the ONE banner, though all six of those fights have gone to the judges’ scorecards.
Probably not the way to beat Johnson.
