Colby Covington puts Jon Jones, Tyron Woodley and Ben Askren on blast.
It’s safe to say that Colby Covington isn’t the most popular fighter on the UFC roster.
Shortly after his career-defining win against Robbie Lawler at UFC on ESPN 5, former college teammate Jon Jones expressed his disappoint in the result, blaming Robbie Lawler for letting ‘the whole world down’.

Covington soon caught wind of Jones’ reaction and put the reigning UFC light heavyweight champion on blast for his comments, calling him “the biggest piece of s*it in all of sports.”
“Jon Jones, he’s out there talking s*it about Robbie Lawler letting the world down? Jon Jones knows firsthand about letting the whole world down,” Covington told MMA Fighting’s Damon Martin in a recent interview. “Don’t talk about Robbie Lawler, Jon Jones. Robbie Lawler’s not wrecking a Bentley with hookers in the back of his car. Robbie Lawler’s not hitting a pregnant lady and then fleeing the scene with all his drugs in the car. Robbie Lawler’s a legend, he’s a family man, he’s a first ballot Hall of Famer.
“So how dare Jon Jones talk about him when he’s the biggest piece of s*it in all of sports.”
Covington, 31, then shifted his attention toward former welterweight champ Tyron Woodley, who reportedly texted Dana White asking for a fight with ‘Chaos’.
Covington, who was expected to challenge then-champ Woodley for the title earlier this year, believes ‘T-Wood’ is no longer a relevant fighter and referred to the 37-year-old as a mere afterthought.
“I begged to fight [Woodley] for three years and he ran,” Covington said. “Oh I’ll fight Nate Diazor GSP (Georges St-Pierre) but I won’t fight Colby’. He gets elective surgery, he begs the UFC not to fight me and now he’s the one who pulled out of this fight. I’ve got to thank him, he pulled out of this fight with a sore thumb and I showed with no training camp and half an eyelid so he can’t really say anything.
“He got burned on Saturday night. He’s irrelevant now, he’s an afterthought now.”
The ever-insulting Covington finally locked his crosshairs on former ONE FC and Bellator welterweight champ turned UFC contender Ben Askren, calling ‘Funky’ a bum who will soon be forgotten after his fight with Demian Maia.
“Ben Askren, come on, man. What can you say? I’m breaking all the records except I’m never going to beat Ben Askren’s record for being knocked out in five seconds,” Covington said. “The worst knockout in the history of the UFC.
“He can’t talk because his career is dead so I don’t even know why Ben Askren is talking. He’s about to be 0-3 in the UFC after Demian Maia dusts him up and we won’t ever have to hear from that bum again.”
Covington, whose headlining bout with Lawler marked his seventh straight win, is expected to challenge Kamaru Usman for the official welterweight title later this year. No date or venue has been announced.
