Jorge Masvidal wasn’t too happy about Colby Covington’s recent comments about Matt Hughes.
UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington was all over the combat sports news headlines this past weekend after UFC Newark. Not only did he defeat former champion Robbie Lawler in dominant fashion, he also made some controversial comments that for some people, was way overboard.
During a post-fight interview, “Chaos” took a jab at UFC Hall-of-Famer Matt Hughes, who was severely injured in a train accident more than two years ago.
“Let’s talk about the lesson we learned tonight. It’s a strong lesson Robbie should have learned a lesson from his buddy Matt Hughes,” Covington said. “You stay off the tracks when the train is coming through, junior. Doesn’t matter if it’s the Trump train or the Colby train, get out the way.”
Covington’s comments went around like wildfire, but apparently, his best friend Jorge Masvidal never heard it when it was said. So when it was brought up to him by a fan during a live stream Q&A, “Gamebred” was unpleasantly surprised.
“He did? I didn’t see that. That’s not even remotely funny,” Masvidal said (transcript by MMA News). “That’s the stupidest sh-t I’ve ever heard if that’s real.
“Super distasteful.” he added. “Whatever, that’s kinda stupid of him.”
From his end, Covington showed no remorse, defending his actions as a form of brutal honesty that people can’t handle.
