Mike Perry had surgery just hours after his Fight of the Night affair with Vicente Luque at UFC Uruguay on Saturday night.
“Platinum” Mike Perry went under the knife just hours after his Fight of the Night with Vicente Luque.
Perry had successful surgery early Sunday morning to fix his badly broken nose, which Perry suffered in his UFC Uruguay co-main event loss to Luque Saturday night in Montevideo, according to ESPN. Some previous nose fractures Perry already had were repaired as well, per the report.
Luque and Perry brawled back and forth for three rounds in the welterweight contest, leading significant cuts to be opened up on Perry’s face. A late knee from Luque broke Perry’s nose. Despite the damage done to Perry, some people, including one judge, thought he won the fight.
Perry has alternated wins and losses in his past four bouts. Prior to Saturday, the Florida-based fighter beat Alex Oliveira in April, but before that fell to Donald Cerrone late last year. The biggest wins of Perry’s career are a decision over Paul Felder, plus a brutal knockout of Jake Ellenberger.
The win moved Luque to six in a row. It was the first decision win of his UFC career. Luque holds notable wins over Belal Muhammad, Niko Price, and now Perry.
Perry is expected to stay in Montevideo for at least a couple days, according to his manager Abraham Kawa. As of now, there is no timetable for his return.
