MMA: UFC Fight Night-Montevideo Shevchenko vs Carmouche

Cat Zingano, meanwhile, was quietly removed from the bantamweight chart.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) released its updated and “official” rankings in the wake of the UFC Fight Night 156 mixed martial arts (MMA) event last weekend on ESPN+, held inside Antel Arena in Montevideo, Uruguay.

That’s where Valentina Shevchenko shut down Liz Carmouche across five uneventful rounds to retain her women’s flyweight championship. Her performance, which avenged a 2010 loss to “Girl-Rilla,” was good enough to push her ahead of Conor McGregor on the pound-for-pound list.

Elsewhere on the charts, welterweight warrior Vicente Luque (finally) cracked the Top 15 by smashing Mike Perry in their “Fight of the Night” barnburner as part of last weekend’s card. “The Silent Assassin” has now captured six in a row with five finishes.

Here’s how the rankings work, courtesy of UFC.com:

Rankings were generated by a voting panel made up of media members. The media members were asked to vote for who they feel are the top fighters in the UFC by weight-class and pound-for-pound. A fighter is only eligible to be voted on if they are in active status in the UFC. A fighter can appear in more than one weight division at a time. The champion and interim champion are considered to be in the top positions of their respective divisions and therefore are not eligible for voting by weight-class. However, the champions can be voted on for the pound-for-pound rankings.

Take a look at what the latest rankings field looks like courtesy of UFC.com. Note: (+/- = movement in rankings, T = tie, *NR = Not previously ranked).
