Anthony Pettis did not leave UFC 241 unscathed.
It appears that Anthony Pettis was compromised early in his fight with Nate Diaz at UFC 241. The former UFC lightweight champion broke his right foot in the first round of his co-main event with Diaz, which he lost by unanimous decision, coach Duke Roufus confirmed to ESPN Sunday.
The severity of the break is currently unknown, as is how long it will take Pettis to recover and return to the cage. The injury may require surgery, according to Roufus, but Pettis won’t know for sure until he returns home to Milwaukee.
Pettis posted a photo of his foot on Instagram early Sunday morning.
“[Diaz], you have a hard ass head homie lol,” Pettis wrote in the post.
Pettis made the fight with Diaz competitive early in the first round, but Diaz took over as the fight progressed and nearly finished “Showtime” multiple times. Pettis saw a two-fight winning streak snapped, while Diaz picked up a win for the first time since March 2016, when he submitted Conor McGregor. Diaz hadn’t fought in over three years.
UFC 241 took place Saturday night at Honda Center in Anaheim. In the main event, Stipe MIocic recaptured the heavyweight title with a fourth-round TKO of Daniel Cormier.
