Bantamweight slugger Thomas Almeida does not want to remain on the sidelines for much longer.
Bantamweight knockout artist Thomas Almeida is craving to step back into the Octagon once again. Still recovering from eye surgery – which he underwent at the beginning of 2019 – ‘Thominhas’ hopes to return before the year is out, and does not wish to stay away from the cage any longer than early 2020.
On his own Instagram page, the 28-year-old wrote a lengthy post addressing his absence from the sport—and also guaranteeing he won’t be retiring any time soon. In fact, although he has no fights booked, Almeida believes he will be cleared to train again as early as October.
“I’ve been receiving lots of messages asking when is my next fight? Am I still in the UFC? and have even been asked if I’m retired? I don’t have a fight scheduled but I’m still a UFC fighter and I’m far from retiring. What happened is that I suffered an injury preparing for the fight I had scheduled earlier this year.”
“Surgery was a success and I’m currently going through the healing process. Injuries are common in combat sports. I’ve been training but I am not able to go through a full training camp just yet. Everything is going well and I believe by the end of this year or beginning of next year I’ll be back fully healthy and ready to fight.”
“Thank y’all for the positive messages and checking up on me. I will soon be back doing what I love the most.”
Currently on a two-fight losing skid, Thomas Almeida (21-3) was knocked out by Rob Font in his last outing, back in January 2018. He dropped a unanimous decision to Jimmie Rivera in July of 2017 before that. His last win came in November 2016, when he knocked out Albert Morales at UFC Fight Night: Bader vs. Nogueira 2.
