Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC) makes its return to China this Saturday morning (Aug. 31, 2019) when all-action women’s Strawweight champion Jessica Andrade faces surging contender Weili Zhang inside Universiade Sports Centre in Shenzhen. Up at Welterweight, Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos puts his lengthy winning streak on the line against fellow finisher Li Jingliang in UFC Fight Night 157’s co-main event, while Kai Kara-France returns to his former stomping grounds to take on fellow Flyweight finisher Mark De La Rosa.
If there’s one thing worth waking up for, it’s money. Let’s get you all some Labor Day dosh:
What Went Wrong at UFC 241?
Nate Diaz finally checked a leg kick and broke Anthony Pettis’ foot. If you can’t move properly against a Diaz, you’re toast. Besides that, I probably should have had more faith in Sabina Mazo. She looked phenomenal against Shana Dobson, living up to the potential she’d failed to show in her UFC debut against Maryna Moroz, and her efforts — combined with those of Kyung Ho Kang and Casey Kenney — to keep things in the green.
UFC Fight Night 157 Odds For The Undercard:
Derrick Krantz (-110) vs. Song Kenan (-110)
Anthony Hernandez (-160) vs. Jun Yong Park (+140)
Andre Soukhamthath (-175) vs. Sumudaerji (+155)
Khadis Ibragimov (-320) vs. Da Un Jung (+260)
Damir Ismagulov (-185) vs. Thiago Moises (+165)
Danaa Batgerel (-115) vs. Heili Alateng (-105)
Lara Procopio (-115) vs. Karol Rosa (-105)
Thoughts: I can already taste the foot in my mouth, but Andre Soukhamthath at -175 is just too damn tempting to pass up. And considering how “The Asian Sensation” has one of the most infamously abysmal fight IQ’s in the sport, that’s saying something.
Sumudaerji is a quick, powerful striker who can’t wrestle to save his life. Louis Smolka — a notoriously poor takedown artist — absolutely manhandled Sumudaerji en route to handing him one of several submission losses. Though it’s something of a coin flip on the feet, Soukhamthath’s far superior wrestling makes him an eye-catching bargain.
Damir Ismagulov looks like a decent pick as well. Moises consistently struggles against powerful wrestlers, a bill Ismagulov fits nicely, and the former M-1 champion looks to at least be the Brazilian’s match on the feet by virtue of his wide kicking arsenal. Unless Moises has dramatically improved his ability to respond to pressure, Ismagulov should take a comfortable victory.
UFC Fight Night 157 Odds For The Main Card:
Jessica Andrade (-185) vs. Weili Zhang (+160)
Elizeu Zaleski Dos Santos (-280) vs. Li Jingliang (+240)
Kai Kara-France (-190) vs. Mark De La Rosa (+165)
Movsar Evloev (-700) vs. Lv Zhenhong (+500)
Mizuki Inoue (-140) vs. Wu Yanan (+120)
Thoughts: Mizuki Inoue is one of the better fighters you’ve never heard of, and even if she’s fallen short against her strongest foes, she’s ostensibly far superior to Yanan. Seven of “Mulan’s” wins came against winless opponents and she’s much too easy to take down to survive against a submission artist of Inoue’s caliber. Yanan is admittedly the larger of the two by a fair margin, but the more proven and skillful Inoue holds too many advantages to pick against her. In short, parlay her with Movsar Evloev for near-even odds.
UFC Fight Night 157 Best Bets:
- Parlay — Andre Soukhamthath and Damir Ismagulov: Bet 50 to make $71
- Parlay — Mizuki Inoue and Movsar Evloev: Bet $75 to make $72.11
