“Hopefully Dustin [Poirier] gets a piece of him, throws him on his back, and puts him away, so we can have a good ole’ f*****g American battle, battle royale.”
A lightweight bout between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson has fell through so many times, that ‘El Cucuy’ no longer seems interested in the match-up.
That’s why, at UFC 242, where reigning lightweight champion Nurmagomedov will take on interim titleholder Poirier in a headlining title unification bout, Ferguson is rooting for ‘The Diamond’ to pull off the upset and hand ‘The Eagle’ his first ever loss inside the Octagon.
“Hopefully Dustin [Poirier] gets a piece of him, throws him on his back, and puts him away, so we can have a good ole’ f*****g American battle, battle royale,” Tony Ferguson said on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show, per BJPenn.com. “Like I said, if push comes to shove me and Khabib, we’ll go out there and we’ll handle this s**t, in December. So either Dustin or Khabib, title shot next December, Las Vegas, let’s make it happen UFC brass.”
Ferguson went on to state that he is ‘cool’ with Poirier and has always wanted to train with the Louisianan at Coconut Creek’s American Top Team (ATT) facility.
“Hey man, he’s American, he’s cool, he’s out of [American] Top Team, one of the gyms I wanted to go and train at, I haven’t had the opportunity to. I fought a couple of people out of there. Solid team man. They got a good bunch of people there man. Champions,” Ferguson said.
UFC 242: Khabib vs. Poirier takes place this Saturday, Sept. 7 at du Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
