Flyweight lives on, as Alexandre Pantoja is expected to meet Matt Schnell at UFC South Korea.
The UFC flyweight division is not done and dusted yet, as Alexander Pantoja is slated to take on Matt Schnell at UFC Fight Night 165 in South Korea this December.
Combate first reported the matchup, though the UFC has not officially announced the fight yet. Between now and the end of the year, only three other flyweight matchups are scheduled to take place, two at UFC Mexico City and one at UFC Tampa.
Pantoja (21-4) most recently fought at UFC 240 in July, losing to Deiveson Figueiredo by unanimous decision. The Ultimate Fighter season 24 semi finalist went on a three-fight winning streak before his most recent loss, picking up finishes over Wilson Reis and Ulka Sasaki, and defeating Brandon Moreno by decision.
Also a competitor of TUF season 24, Schnell (14-4) has improved drastically since suffering consecutive knockout losses to Hector Sandoval and Rob Font. “Danger” is on a four-fight winning streak, stepping up to bantamweight and submitting Louis Smolka, he most recently dropped back down to 125-pounds and submitted Jordan Espinosa in the first-round.
UFC on ESPN+ 23 takes place on December 21st at the Sajik Arena in Busan, South Korea. No other fights have yet been announced for the card.
