A nasty eye infection almost put an early end to UFC Fight Night 158’s main event between Donald Cerrone vs. Justin Gaethje this weekend in Vancouver.
An eye infection nearly forced Justin Gaethje out of his main event match against Donald Cerrone this weekend (Sat., Sept. 14, 2019) at UFC Fight Night 158, which takes place inside Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. “The Highlight” wore sunglasses to his post-open workouts scrum in Vancouver on Wednesday (watch highlights here). “The Highlight” was candid about the reason he was sporting eyewear.
“I’m wearing these sunglasses because I almost didn’t make it to this fight. I had an eye infection and I’m through that now,” Gaethje told MMAmania.com and other media. “I just got off the plane about 1.5 hours ago. I came straight here because I was not going to miss the opportunity to workout and get the blood flowing.
“These lights are super bright, I’m a little light sensitive right now but I’m 100 percent ready to go,” he continued. “I fought blind my whole life. Unless my eyes are cut out I’m fighting. I’ve seen many doctors. I’m cleared and I’m ready to go … I’m seeing drastic improvements everyday. I’m doing this as a precaution.”
Gaethje also talked about how Cerrone is his dream fight, what sort of challenge he presents to Khabib Nurmagomedov, disinterest in fighting for Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal’s “BMF” title and much more.
