Cryptic Tweet Alert!

I thought by now we’d be over the whole, “omg Conor McGregor wiped his ass what does it mean” way of doing business, but I guess he’s still a big enough deal that we have to report on every little cryptic tweet sent out by “Notorious.”

And I understand that by writing this I’m part of the problem, but to be fair, I was trying to hold out and will likely be the 743rd person to report this once it finally goes to print.

So why all the hullabaloo? Seems the former UFC lightweight champion just dropped the date of Dec. 14 on his official Twitter page, which is the same day as the UFC 245 PPV event. Yes, the still-developing fight card currently headlined by (wait for it) … Amanda Nunes vs. Germaine de Randamie.

If you’ve been paying attention over the last year or so you’ll remember that “Lioness” returned one of the worst PPV buy rates in the history of UFC. So it’s safe to say that Dana White and Co. are still on the prowl for a marquee match up.

Okay, it says Dublin, but that’s where the airport is located (and you thought Jon Jones had a long reach). Or maybe Nunes will pull a “Bones” and flunk for picograms, forcing UFC to move the event from Las Vegas to Ireland, much like the UFC 232 fiasco late last year.

If Tony Ferguson is unable to answer the 155-pound call, McGregor will get another crack at Khabib Nurmagomedov, a rematch from their UFC 229 title fight that ended in victory for “The Eagle.” There’s also a potential rematch between the power-punching Irishman and fellow featherweight import, Dustin Poirier.

Who also has plans for December.

Then again, we have to make room for Justin Gaethje, who disposed of Donald Cerrone last weekend in Vancouver — quite violently, mind you. So McGregor certainly has no shortage of lightweight opponents upon his return.

Or he can move back up to welterweight and fight for the “Bad Mother Fucker” belt.
