Heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic and ex-titleholder Daniel Cormier will run it back a third time, according to the UFC president.

Daniel Cormier is not stepping away from MMA just yet, according to UFC president Dana White.

White said Thursday in an interview with Barstool Sports that the UFC is planning to book a trilogy fight between current heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic and Cormier.

“Stipe is recovering from that fight, he’s got some bumps and bangs from that fight,” White said. “We’re waiting for him to heal, and, yeah, we’re going to do the trilogy.”

White did not give a timetable for when Miocic vs. Cormier 3 could happen. He said it will depend on how long it takes Miocic to fully recover.

Miocic and Cormier have both won one fight against each other. Most recently, Miocic finished “DC” with a fourth-round TKO last month at UFC 241 to recapture the heavyweight belt. Cormier was the titleholder at the time.

In July 2018, Cormier, then the light heavyweight champ, knocked out Miocic in the first round to win the heavyweight title. He defended it once against Derrick Lewis before dropping it in the Miocic rematch.

Cormier said after the Miocic loss that he was considering retirement, but did not commit to anything one way or the other. Cormier, 40, has yet to comment on White saying that the Miocic trilogy is next.

Miocic is the most accomplished heavyweight champion in UFC history. During his first reign, he defended the strap three times, which is a company record. Cormier, on the other hand, is regarded as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters of all time.
