Cain Velasquez is reportedly in talks with the WWE and other wrestling promotions.
In early August, Cain Velasquez made his professional wrestling debut at AAA Triplemania XXVll in Mexico. A month later, he made his United States debut in New York City for the same promotion’s show at Madison Square Garden.
Apparently, the former UFC heavyweight champion could be headed for pro wrestling’s biggest show. According to ESPN’s Marc Raimondi, the 37-year-old American Kickboxing Academy standout is in talks with the WWE and All-Elite Wrestling (AEW).
“AAA and New Japan Pro-Wrestling could also be in play for Velasquez, sources said. AEW and AAA have a talent-sharing agreement. Velasquez attended a New Japan show last month in San Francisco and met with officials backstage,” an excerpt of the report reads.
Dave Meltzer of MMA Fighting also confirmed the news, stating Velasquez would likely undergo knee surgery before making any commitments. He also broached the possibility of a matchup against fellow ex-UFC champion Brock Lesnar.
Velasquez made his Octagon return after a three-year layoff in February against Francis Ngannou. He lost via first-round TKO inside 26 seconds of action.
