Michelle Waterson has released a statement following her loss to Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC Tampa. ‘The Karate Hottie’ fell to former strawweight champion Jedrzejczyk in the event’s main event last weekend, losing by unanimous decision.
“Not gonna lie, I’m sad and that’s ok,” Waterson wrote Sunday night in an Instagram post. “It’s all good. Just a couple of black eyes… We prepared for victory but that’s the fight game. Yesterday wasn’t my night. As in life when things don’t go our way we say to ourselves “if only” or “what if this, and what if that”.. I’m there right now and I could replay the fight in my mind a million times, but the moment has passed and moving forward is the only direction we go.”
The Jedrzejczyk defeat snapped Waterson’s three-fight winning streak. In the fight, a title shot against Weili Zhang was potentially up for grabs. After the bout was over, Jedrzjeczyk called out the champion, who won the 115-pound belt in August, for a stadium show in Jedrzejczyk’s native Poland.
