Maybe Joe Rogan was right?!?
I thought Colby Covington and Dana White had settled their longstanding beef, which came to a head during an impromptu blackjack game in Las Vegas, based on the promotion president’s recent promise to give “Chaos” the next crack at the 170-pound crown.
Silly me.
While Covington will, in fact, headline the UFC 245 pay-per-view (PPV) event against reigning 170-pound titleholder, Kamaru Usman, the booking was not without its fair share of drama, which White and Co. blamed on the money-hungry challenger.
”He’s just trying to push his narrative, push his angles, and he just wants what he wants, when he wants it,” Covington told Submission Radio. “If there’s anybody to blame, it’s Marty Fakenewsman. He didn’t want to fight me, he didn’t fight Jorge Masvidal, he didn’t want to fight Leon Scott [sic]. He didn’t wanna fight anybody. So, Dana White needs to get his brain checked because he might have CTE if he’s making up lies like that.”
Covington was expected to main event UFC 244 next month in New York, but insists the promotion tried to nickel-and-dime him at the negotiating table. That paved the way for a new welterweight headliner in the form of Jorge Masvidal vs. Nate Diaz.
The winner will be crowned “Baddest Mother Fucker” in UFC with former pro wrestler, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, presenting the belt. That’s a job that White usually (but not always) handles at the end of every title fight.
That just might get him slapped at UFC 245 on Dec. 14.
“I can tell you who’s not wrapping it around my waist, and that will not be Dana White,” Covington said. “If he tries to wrap it around my waist, I’m gonna take the belt from him and slap him in the face with it. What’s great about this is, this is an opportunity for me to just really shove this up the UFC’s ass and say, fuck you guys, I don’t give a fuck about you guys, now you have to come to me. So, you’re gonna be calling me after December 14th begging to get me back in there.”
