The unified welterweight champion was also released from a Dallas hospital.
Errol Spence Jr is fortunate to have avoided serious injuries after last week’s single-car crash, but he won’t escape criminal charges.
The unified WBC/IBF welterweight champion is now out of the hospital after he flipped his Ferrari multiple times over in a scary crash in his hometown of Dallas, Texas. While he was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit, Spence ultimately didn’t suffer any broken bones and is expected to make a full recovery.
As for how the crash occurred, it appears that Spence was traveling at a high rate of speed and was intoxicated at the time. There won’t be a speeding charge, but he has since been charged with DWI.
“Errol Spence Jr was charged with DWI, misdemeanor B,” a statement from the Dallas Police Department read. “Mr. Spence has been released from the hospital and will need to address those charges. As for getting a speed of the vehicle, we will not be getting one. It was a single car accident with no other criminal charges.”?
Spence (26-0, 21 KOs) is just weeks removed from a thrilling split decision win over Shawn Porter, which netted him Shawn’s WBC title. He was penciled in for a title defense vs. Danny Garcia on January 25th. It’s way too early to determine whether or not those plans are still in place following Spence’s accident.
