“Hey Jon [Jones], I don’t want any party favors. I want that belt, baby, let’s go.”
Who can blame Dominick Reyes for calling out Jon Jones after ‘The Devastator’s’ flawless performance against Chris Weidman on Friday night?
Reyes, 29, extended his professional record to a perfect 12-0 after crumpling Weidman with a beautiful left hand and following-up with ground-and-pound to secure the knockout.
Not only did Reyes KO former UFC middleweight champ Weidman in the first round but the former football player barely took any damage and stuffed ‘All-American’s’ takedowns with ease.
Celebrating his win in the post-fight interview, the streaking light heavyweight contender wasted no time in calling out divisional champ Jon Jones, who is currently without an opponent.
“I was out there having fun. He came in and I put him down,” Reyes said, per MMA Fighting’s Damon Martin. “His loss is my gain and that’s how this business is but it’s all love. Hey Jon [Jones], I don’t want any party favors. I want that belt, baby, let’s go.”
Jones, the No. 1-ranked pound-for-pound fighter in the world, teased of a ‘big fight announcement’ in September but has yet to reveal an opponent or date for his next title defense. The Jackson-Wink protege last fought earlier this year at UFC 239, where he edged a split decision win over Thiago Santos in a rather anti-climactic main event at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena.
