There is now only one Pettis brother under contract with Ultimate fighting Championship (UFC), as Sergio Pettis — younger brother of former UFC Lightweight champion, Anthony Pettis — has jumped ship to Bellator MMA.
According to ESPN, Sergio is set to sign his new deal shortly, and his debut with the Viacom-owned promotion is yet-to-be determined.
“The Phenom” is coming off a win over Tyson Nam at UFC Fight Night 159 a few weeks ago in Mexico City, Mexico. Shortly after that win, Pettis was in line to face Kai Kara-France at the upcoming UFC 245 pay-per-view (PPV) event on Dec. 14, but those plans were scrapped after Pettis opted to test free agency since his UFC deal had expired.
His win over Nam snapped his two-fight losing streak, bringing his UFC record to 9-5, 18-5 overall. During his tenure with UFC, Sergio picked up big wins over Joseph Benavidez, John Moraga and Brandon Moreno.
Now, “The Phenom” will look for a fresh start with the Scott Coker-led company, who has picked up several of UFC’s talent over the last couple of years once they decided to test the free agency market.
Moving forward, the Pettis brothers no longer have to worry about this.
