Diego Sanchez wants to fight Demian Maia on January 18th, next year in Las Vegas.
A potential fight between two UFC legends may be heating up. In response to a recent call-out from Demian Maia, Diego Sanchez has says he’s all-in for the bout.
Maia was victorious this past weekend at UFC Singapore, submitting Ben Askren in the third-round of the main event and earning a $50,000 bonus in the process. In his post-fight interview, Maia politely requested fellow veteran Sanchez for his next fight.
“Diego Sanchez is somebody that has been calling me out for years and is like a veteran fighter,” Maia said after his fight with Askren. “Let’s see. If people like (the fight), I can do.”
It didn’t take long for The Ultimate Fighter season one winner Sanchez to reply to Maia’s call-out. After stating he missed out on a planned match-up with Anthony Pettis, he asked UFC president Dana White to fight Maia on January 18th of next year in Las Vegas.
“Let’s go Dana White I didn’t get the go on the Anthony Pettis fight I have paid my dues,” Sanchez wrote. “Only you know the truth of my last outing. Let’s put it together Jan 18th in Vegas!!! Two legends want to dance let us dance!”
An event has not been announced for the planned date of January 18th Sanchez mentioned, but Conor McGregor did recently announce his planned comeback for that date. And the UFC acknowledged that they’re targeting the date for a fight card as well.
