For whatever reason, Yair Rodriguez recently took it upon himself to call out Conor McGregor, and he took the religious route in hopes of a miracle. “El Pantera” took to social media to light a candle in honor of St. McGregor to trigger some type of divine intervention that will get him the biggest money fight around, which is atop most fighters’ wish lists.
Indeed, the Mexican people are known for praying to saints and lighting candles when sending requests upstairs, but it’s going to take more than prayer to lock down a fight against the biggest money-making fighter Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has ever had.
That’s because getting McGregor to fight is one thing, getting him to settle on an opponent is the first battle. For example, Justin Gaethje and Donald Cerrone have been lobbying for a fight against “Notorious” to no avail.
That said, McGregor has already revealed that he will return to action on Jan. 18, 2020, so all that is left to do is lock down the right man to stand across from him. As it stands, the front-runner to land the big fight is Cerrone, who has been linked to a fight against “Notorious” for some time now.
As for Rodriguez — who is fresh off a dominant win over Jeremy Stephens at UFC on ESPN 6 — he will likely have to pray to another saint in order to lock down a fight.
