A light heavyweight matchup looks to be on tap for the yet to be announced Strikeforce event in July. Former champ Rafael “Feijão” Cavalcante (10-3) will reportedly take on high rising Ovince “OSP” St. Preux (10-4).
The news was reported by MMAFighting.com, who learned of the matchup from a source close to the fight.
No date, or venue has been identified for the upcoming July Strikeforce event, but it is rumored that the promotion may look to host it’s first pay per view event. Headlining the show is expected to be a heavyweight bout between Russian fighter Fedor Emelianenko vs. light heavyweight champ Dan Henderson.
Cavalcante was defeated in his last bout, losing the Strikeforce title to Henderson just over a month ago at a Columbus event. The defeat ended a three fight win streak for the Brazilian. That bout was his first title defense, after stopping Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal last August in Houston by third round TKO, taking the belt, which has proved allusive for it’s last four title holders.
St. Preux (10-4) has won seven straight matches, six of which happened in 2010 with various promotions which included three Strikeforce victories. His last appearance with Strikeforce was in early January at a Challengers event, where he earned a unanimous decision over Abongo Humphrey. Other Strikeforce wins include victories over Benji Radach, Antwain Britt, and Chris Hawk in his promotional debut.
