Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion, Anthony Pettis, is returning to the weight class where he once held gold, after taking a pair of fights at welterweight to mixed results.
“Showtime” has also competed as far down as featherweight.
Pettis is expected to throw hands with streaking lightweight contender Diego Ferreira, according to a report from MMA Junkie, on Jan. 18, 2020 at the mixed martial arts (MMA) event that does not yet have an official name or location.
That’s likely to come once Conor McGregor makes up his mind.
Pettis (22-9) has not won back-to-back fights in nearly six years across a span of 11 fights. His welterweight experiment started with a thrilling, knockout win over Stephen Thompson, but then hit a wall after a three-round decision loss to Anthony Pettis.
As for Ferreira (16-2), his career got off to a rocky start at just 2-2, but the unranked Brazilian has since captured five in a row, including last September’s unanimous decision win over the venerable Mairbek Taisumov.
Stay tuned for more details on the Jan. 18 show, as they become available.
