Longtime mixed martial arts (MMA) veteran Cindy Dandois, who competed for Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) back in early 2017, withdrew from her upcoming fight against Eleni Mytilinaki at Cage Survivor 14 in Athens, Greece.

That’s because Dandois was hospitalized with a broken nose and facial lacerations following an alleged assault from her ex-boyfriend outside her home in Deurne, Antwerp, Belgium, which resulted in seven stitches and a permanent scar across her face.

“An ex of mine couldn’t believe we were apart and I just wanted to go through life as friends,” she told Het Laatste Niews (translation via MMA Junkie). “Jealousy, then. He had been threatening me for a while, but I didn’t take those threats seriously – until he stood at my door.”

Dandois holds a professional record of 14-5 with 11 finishes and is coming off back-to-back submission victories over Gemma Pike and lsira Sheree Amstelveen. In addition to UFC, “Battlecat” has competed for Bellator MMA, RIZIN FF, and Invicta FC, among others.

“I was not prepared for the attack at all,” Dandois continued. “Before I knew it, I got slapped in the face. My nose is broken and crooked. There is also a deep cut that was stitched with seven stitches. It will be a scar for life. Hopefully, they will be able to straighten my nose again. I should have taken the threats seriously from the beginning, but always hoped that he would cool down. Not so.”

Dandois, 35, is hoping to make her MMA return by the end of the year.
