American Top Team owner Dan Lambert is still looking forward to seeing Dustin Poirier fight Nate Diaz.

Former interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier was already scheduled to fight Nate Diaz at UFC 230 in November 2018. The fight ended up falling through when Poirier pulled out due to an injury.

Diaz once again hinted at retirement after losing to Jorge Masvidal at UFC 244 early this month. But despite this uncertainty, American Top Team owner Dan Lambert still wants to see this fight happen.

“I think lightweight is the perfect fight for (Poirier), but if a big fight could happen at welterweight, I think he would jump on it,” Lambert told BJPenn.com. “If a Nate Diaz fight materialized at 170 or 155 he would be all about that. 155 is the best weight for him.”

Poirier is currently looking at March or April 2020 for his comeback date. As for his opponent, “The Diamond” sees a rematch against Conor McGregor to be his most sensible option at this point.

Poirier and McGregor first fought at UFC 178 in 2014 at featherweight. Conor ended up winning by first-round TKO.
