Mixed martial arts (MMA) is one of the few industries where talent can fail upward.

Lest you thought getting a title shot coming off a loss was relegated to Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), then let me direct you to the RIZIN Fighting Federation event on Dec. 31 in Saitama, Japan, where C.B. Dollaway will fight Jiri Prochazka for the promotion’s light heavyweight strap.

Dollaway (17-9) is coming off a technical knockout loss to Khalid Murtazaliev at UFC Fight Night 136 in Moscow.

“The Doberman” was subsequently popped by United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) for anastrozole, as well as clomiphene, in a pair of out-of-competition drug tests collected earlier this year (more on that here).

The result was a two-year disciplinary suspension and his release from UFC; however, RIZIN does not recognize sanctions from USADA. That gives Dollaway, 36, the opportunity to ply his trade overseas for the foreseeable future, without those pesky drug testers knocking on his door at all hours.
