Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) held its last event of 2019 this past weekend (Sat. Dec. 14, 2019) in Busan, South Korea, which saw Chan Sung Jung knockout Frankie Edgar in the very first round.
Now it’s time to look back at the decade that was mixed martial arts (MMA) inside the Octagon as 2020 approaches. UFC is set to release a series of videos dubbed “A Decade in Review” highlighting some of the best moments and highlights for the promotion over the last 10 years, focusing on one year at a time.
The first installment starts in 2010, where we saw the rise of a young Cain Velasquez, who came into the Octagon with plenty of promise and quickly showed why he would eventually go on to become the Heavyweight champion after annihilating Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 110, and then Brock Lesnar at UFC 121.
Also, former longtime Light Heavyweight king, Chuck Liddell, called it a career that year after he was viciously knocked out by Rich Franklin at UFC 115. Plus, we were treated to an incredible Middleweight title fight between Chael Sonnen and Anderson Silva which nearly saw “The American Gangster” pull off the upset before getting caught in one of “The Spider’s” submissions.
Can you think of any moments in 2010 that should’ve made the cut?
