Chan Sung Jung feels he should be ranked higher at featherweight.
After his win over Frankie Edgar at UFC Busan, Korean Zombie isn’t happy with only being bumped up two spaces in the featherweight rankings.
Jung knocked out Edgar in the first round at UFC Busan, earning himself a $50,000 bonus for the finish. The win was the Korean’s second consecutive first-round finish, previously beating Renato Moicano in under a minute before the win over Edgar.
Posting recently on Instagram, Korean Zombie said he can’t understand why he isn’t ranked above Brian Ortega and Zabit Magomedsharipov following the rankings update after his recent win.
Jung is referring to Magomedsharipov, who picked up a win against Calvin Kattar in November. Zombie is also taking a pop at Ortega, who was supposed to be the Korean’s original opponent at UFC Busan. Ortega hasn’t fought since December 2018, when he suffered his first loss in MMA to then-champ Max Holloway by TKO.
Only losing by last-gasp KO to Yair Rodriguez in a fight that he was mostly winning, since returning to MMA after a four-year layoff, Jung (16-5) has gone 3-1 in his last four fights at 145-pounds. With a lack of clear contenders at featherweight, Jung could be next in line for recently crowned champion Alex Volkanovski, unless a rematch if made between the Australian and Holloway.
