ESPN just reminded us that ‘Cowboy’ once lost 12 feet worth of intestine in an ATV accident. Here’s Cerrone with the grisly details.
Check out this nifty infographic from ESPN that details some of the crazy injuries Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone has suffered from his extreme sport extracurriculars.
The infographic actually undersells the amount of damage Cerrone has taken over the years outside the cage, leaving out how he has “broken his back twice” and the details of that twelve feet of intestines lost. That happened when he was “disemboweled by the handlebars of his all-terrain vehicle, losing a section of his intestines and stomach after a 60-foot jump gone very wrong.”
Cerrone detailed the injury back in 2012:
“I was racing some motocross and I wrecked real bad and just kind of spilled my guts out,” Cerrone said. “They had to take a bunch of my intestines and part of my stomach. What happened this time is, my stomach basically rolled around the intestine. Man, talk about pain. It was like someone was stabbing me. Oh, it was so brutal. I had to go to the ER, and basically they had to empty all of my intestines out and then rush water down my stomach and try to get it to unspin, kind of like a garden hose. If you have a kink in the hose, you run water and the pressure will cause it to unravel. It worked, so thank God.”
Being the crazy sumbitch he is, “Cowboy” somehow still fought Jeremy Stephens two weeks later at UFC on Fuel TV 3.
Not only that, but Cerrone won the bout by Unanimous Decision with 30-27 scores from all three judges.
But yeah, if you’re ever wondering why shots to the body tend to affect him so much, now you know. The guy’s not superhuman, although he sure has provided ample evidence to the contrary over the years.
