UFC welterweight veteran Thiago Alves will now fight for Bare Knuckle Fighting Championships.
So much for that dream of becoming a police officer, it seems.
After stating he would consider offers from Bellator, Professional Fighters League, a renewal with the UFC, or even retirement in order to follow his dream of joining the force, welterweight veteran Thiago Alves has now become Bare Knuckle Fighting Championships’ latest signing.
MMA Fighting broke the news after getting in touch with BKFC president David Feldman, who expects great things from the ‘Pitbull.’
“I am very excited to have Thiago on the BKFC roster,” Feldman said. “He is very experienced and always has an entertaining fight. He will make his debut in April or May. We really expect big things from him. He’s a great fighter and a great person.”
The news mark the end of Thiago Alves’ (23-15) 14-year stint in the UFC, leaving the promotion with a 15-12 record. Most recently, the 36-year-old suffered back-to-back losses to Tim Means and Laureano Staropoli, with his final UFC win coming in February 2019, when he edged out Max Griffin via split decision. At the height of his career, Alves challenged for the welterweight title, losing by unanimous decision to Georges St-Pierre at UFC 100 in 2009.
Bare Knuckle FC’s roster notably includes Joe Riggs, Hector Lombard, Artem Lobov, Jason Knight, Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva, and Chris Leben.
