After suffering the first loss of her professional mixed martial arts (MMA) career, Mackenzie Dern is looking to get back into the swing of things in an effort to get back to her winning ways.
According to Ariane Carnelossi’s Instagram post, she has been tasked to welcome the jiu-jitsu ace back to the cage at the upcoming UFC Fight Night 173 event on April 25 in Lincoln, Nebraska.
It’s important to note that Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has yet to confirm this matchup at this point in time, though some fighters spill the beans long before UFC makes it official.
Dern is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Amanda Ribas at UFC Fight Night 161 last October (recap). The fight was Dern’s first since giving birth to her child just a few months prior. Before losing to Ribas, Dern went a perfect 7-0, which included winning her first two fights inside the Octagon.
As for Carnelossi, she came up short in her Octagon debut last September, losing to Angela Hill via third round technical knockout (TKO) as a result of a doctor’s stoppage. The defeat snapped her 12-fight win streak which went back five years.
UFC Fight Night 173 is set to be headlined by a Light Heavyweight bout that will see Anthony Smith face Glover Teixeira, while Antonina Shevchenko and Cynthia Calvillo face off in the co-headlining act.
