Conor McGregor has his eyes on a boxing world title.
Conor McGregor’s manager has said the Irishman is serious about a return to the boxing ring, and wants his hands on a world title.
Before his 40-second KO win over Donald Cerrone earlier this month at UFC 246, McGregor said he was close to finalizing a boxing fight with multiple-weight world champion Manny Pacquiao. The Filipino won the WBA super welterweight title in July of last year, when he handed Keith Thurman his first loss by decision.
McGregor’s manager Audie Attar recently spoke to MMA Fighting about how the ‘Notorious’ is serious about crossing over to boxing again.
“He’s serious about boxing,” Attar said. “He said it. That’s something that I can tell you, if he says something he has interest in, it’s likely going to happen.”
In August 2017, McGregor made his boxing debut when he took on arguably the greatest boxer of all time in Floyd Mayweather. The Irishman lost by tenth-round stoppage on the night as Mayweather improved his record to 50-0.
Boxing promoter Bob Arum recently suggested that McGregor and WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford could meet in the octagon, then the boxing ring later. Attar said they are keeping tabs on all offers McGregor is getting ahead of a potential return to boxing.
“We definitely monitor everything,” Attar said. “We monitor not only fan engagement and interest from the public, but then you look at who’s out there talking what. Because it could be where we have a few different options to weigh and decide on.
“At the end of the day, I saw Floyd, I saw Manny and now Bob Arum, who at one point said, ‘It’s not a smart idea to crossover.’ He’s a believer now as well.”
