Dominick Reyes will partake in the biggest fight of his mixed martial arts (MMA) career when he faces Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, in the main event of UFC 247 on Feb. 8, 2020 in Houston, Texas.
Before then, “The Devastator” had to work his way up the 205-pound ladder, which was filled with new blood itching to get a crack at “Bones.” Among them was Jared Cannonier. The two faced off at UFC Fight Night 129 in May of 2018. At the time, Reyes was barely two fights into his UFC career, while “Killa Gorilla” had a total of six fights inside the Octagon, and was coming off a loss to Volkan Oezdemir.
After exchanging a few strikes and kicks to open the first couple of minutes, Jared missed with a right hand, which gave Reyes the perfect opening to land a sneaky uppercut that rattled the former Heavyweight. Smelling blood, Reyes picked up the pace, stalking Cannonier and tagging him with one kick to the body after another. Soon thereafter, Reyes clipped “The Killa Gorilla” with another uppercut which put an end to the fight.
Three wins later, Dominick earned himself a shot at the 205-pound title, which will see him try to dethrone the greatest Light Heavyweight of all time.
