Current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, is considered to be the best pound-for-pound best fighter in mixed martial arts (MMA) today thanks to his dominate run at 205 pounds which has seen him earn 10 title defenses so far.

Through it all, “Bones” has dispatched of former champions, legends and up-and-comers, proving that as long as he stays in the division, everyone else will always be fighting for second place.

But according to Dominick Reyes, despite all of Jon’s success inside the Octagon, he will never be known as the Michael Jordan or Muhammad Ali of the sport due to all of his past transgressions.

“He’s not ever going to be the Michael Jordan, Muhammad Ali level,” declared Reyes during a recent interview on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show.

“No matter how many wins he gets, no matter how many titles he wins, he can’t get out of his own way. He’s just not a good person.”

Jon’s troubles outside of the Octagon are well-documented, as are his complications with United States Anti Doping Agency (USADA) which have not only cast a black cloud over the dominant champion, but prevented him from increasing his resume that much more.

Still, Jones is adamant he is doing his best to stay on the straight and narrow, and this coming year will be his chance to not only add to his legacy inside the Octagon, but prove that he can stay out of his own way outside of it. If he continues to stay on the right path, then perhaps Jones can, in fact, reach the level of Jordan and Ali. Unless you think he’s there already?

Jones and Reyes are set to collide this Saturday night (Feb. 8, 2020) in the main event of UFC 247 in Houston, Texas, which will air exclusively on ESPN+ pay-per-view (PPV).
