Derrick Lewis will look to earn his second straight win this Saturday night (Feb. 8, 2020) when he faces Ilir Latifi in main card action at UFC 247 in his hometown of Houston, Texas.
Before then, lets take a trip down memory land to see one of “Black Beast’s” most impressive performances from 2018. In February of that year, Lewis found himself staring down fellow big man, Marcin Tybura, in Austin, Texas at UFC Fight Night 126.
Lewis was eager to get back into the win column after having his six-fight win streak snapped by Mark Hunt the fight prior.
Early on, Lewis quickly realized he had a tough fight on his hands, as Marcin absorbed several of his big bombs, even surviving a ground-and-pound onslaught in the opening frame. To his credit, Lewis also managed to survive Marcin’s top game in round one.
In round two, Lewis was looking for the home run shot, bur Tybur used his experience to grab a hold of Derrick and drag him down to the mat again. It was a dominant round for Tybura, who spent the majority of the five minutes piling on the punishment.
Going into the final round, Lewis was determined to keep the fight standing, though Marcin was desperate to land another takedown to secure a win. During one of Tybura’s attempts to drag “Black Beast” down, Lewis managed to use Marcin’s momentum against him, spinning him around and down to the mat.
Upon getting up, Derrick unleashed some powerful bombs, one of which clipped Tybura right on the chin. Once on the ground, Lewis unleashed five unanswered shots on his foe which forced the referee to put an end to the action.
Another comeback win from one of the heaviest hitters in the game.
