Check out the results and highlights from the UFC 247 early prelims, including Journey Newson running right through Domingo Pilarte in 38 seconds.

The UFC 247 card is underway and the Fight Pass prelims just concluded with Journey Newson destroying Domingo Pilarte in a speedy 38 seconds. The crushing blow came by way of a blistering right hand that dropped Pilarte. A few academic ground strikes landed before the referee stepped in. This was quite an explosive finish that gets Newson back into the win column.

Before that, Jonathan Martinez and Andre Ewell went the distance in a bout that took place entirely on the feet. Both men landed some solid strikes, but when the dust settled the split decision was awarded to Ewell. The third round seemed to be all Martinez, but Ewell received a 30-27 on one of the scorecards nonetheless. Ewell now finds himself back in the win column. Opening up the event, Youssef Zalal made good on his UFC debut with a dominant unanimous decision over Austin Lingo. He showed off a variety of skills with both his strikes and grappling. Zalal is now on a two-fight winning streak.

Fight Pass prelims:

Journey Newson def. Domingo Pilarte by TKO at :38 of round 1: Bantamweight

This bout started hot! The fighters came out and started exchanging. Then, Newson exploded with a perfect right hand that flattened Pilarte. Newson pounced and began to bring down the ground strikes. The referee stepped in to rescue Pilarte. Wow!

Andre Ewell def. Jonathan Martinez by split decision (30-27, 29-28, 28-29) : Bantamweight

Martinez started the bout with a lot of kicks upstairs. Then, a kick to the body visibly hurt Ewell, but he recovered. Ewell came alive with his boxing, mixing it up to the head and body. At the end of the round, both fighters bit down on their mouthpieces and traded in a rather exciting exchange.

Ewell returned to his boxing to start the second round. He worked off his jab while also sneaking in mean knees to the midsection. Martinez showed off descent defense, but Ewell was finding ways around it. Martinez went back to his kicks, and landed a front one to the body that again visibly hurt Ewell.

Martinez pressed the action in the third act. He stuck with his kicks, attacking on different levels. Martinez kept moving forward as Ewell was content to stay on the outside. The low calf kick was an effective weapon to manage his opponent’s footwork. Again at the end of the round, both fighters slugged it out with each man landing.

Youssef Zalal def. Austin Lingo by unanimous decision (30-27 x3): Featherweight

Lingo pressed the action right away. Zalal used some slick striking to open up the nose of his opponent. He also used some knees to the head from a front head lock position to rack up some damage. Lingo kept up with the pressure, but the footwork of Zalal helped address it.

Zalal came out in the second round and and scored an early takedown against the fence. As Lingo tried to scramble up, Zalal locked up a D’arce. Lingo escaped the sub attempt and made it back to his feet. Zalal went back to the takedown to plant his opponent on the mat, but nothing much happened before they stood back up.

The footwork of Zalal was still there in the final round, and so was the takedown. Some more knees from the front head lock position scored for Zalal, before trying for an anaconda choke. Lingo struggled to stop the takedown whenever he did make it into open space.
