In the co-main event of UFC 247, Valentina Shevchenko beat Katlyn Chookagian by third round TKO.
Valentina Shevchenko outclassed Katlyn Chookagian in the co-main event of UFC 247 to win by third round stoppage.
What was the high point of the fight?
It was a fairly even striking affair on the feet In the first round, but Shevchenko got the advantage when she landed a takedown. “Bullet” proceeded to land ground and pound for the remainder of the round and opened up a cut on the head of Chookagian from an elbow.
Shevchenko has success in the second round with kicks, the best of which being a wheel kick that landed clean on the head of Chookagian. After landing a takedown in the third round, Shevchenko got into the crucifix position and started to land heavy punches which forced the referee to stop the fight.
Where do they go from here?
The win for Shevchenko is the third defence of her title, and her fifth straight win in the Octagon. Despite their being no real clear contender at 125-pounds, in her post-fight interview Shevchenko said she still wants to defend her flyweight title against other contenders in the division.
The loss for Chookagian snaps a two-fight winning streak. It’s a tough one to take for “Blonde Fighter” as she was thoroughly outclassed by Shevchenko and never really had any success in the fight. Chookagian will have to go and get a few more wins under her belt before she is to fight for the title again.
