Oumar ‘Reug Reug’ Kane | ARES FC
The imposing heavyweight went viral after his victorious professional debut at the end of last year and looks to continue that momentum in Belgium.
‘Reug Reug’ was one of MMA’s unexpected breakout stars last year and his return to the cage is now confirmed.
Back in December, not only was it ARES FC’s inaugural event but it was also the debut of Senegalese wrestler, Oumar ‘Reug Reug’ Kane (1-0). He dominated veteran heavyweight, Sofiane Boukichou, on the way to a second round TKO stoppage. The 27-year-old tossed his opponent around like a rag-doll at points and executed a number of high amplitude slams in a performance which went viral. With his intimidating physique and all-action approach, the Afro-European promotion may have a major star on their hands.
Fans and media alike will get to catch a second glimpse at ‘Reug Reug’ on April 3 when he takes on undefeated Russian heavyweight, Ivan Romanov, in Brussels, Belgium. Romanov (5-0) has been fighting professionally for around three years and will be hoping to grab his own headlines by giving ‘Reug Reug’ his first defeat in MMA. He registered three wins on the Russian scene last year and prefers to grapple so it will be an interesting clash of styles when the pair meet.
ARES FC 2 is headlined by UFC veteran, Nordine Taleb (15-7), as he takes on local favourite, Maarten Wouters (11-7), and John Moraga (19-7) faces Hector Sandoval (15-4) in the evening’s co-main event.
