Brazilian welterweight Michel Pereira believes he will score another one of his big wins when he meets Diego Sanchez in Rio Rancho.
Michel Pereira’s confidence remains unshaken after his frustrating unanimous decision loss against Tristan Connelly; who took the fight on five-days notice. back in September 2019.
Now paired up against seasoned veteran Diego Sanchez at UFC Rio Rancho, Pereira believes he will get back in the win column, but won’t give up his flashy ways just because of the defeat in his last outing.
In an interview with Combate, Pereira explained he is honoured to take on someone as experienced as Sanchez, but just can’t fathom how Sanchez can best him in the Octagon come Saturday night.
“It’s going to be an honour for me to fight someone like Diego Sanchez. I grew up watching him fight. He’s a big deal in the UFC. I’m really happy to be fighting him, especially on a co-main event. I knew the UFC would soon put me up against the top guys in the division. When I heard I was going to fight him, I was really happy, because I think we match up very well. I can’t see him beating me anywhere. I’m well prepared, I’ll be able to put on a show and kill his game.”
Before his aforementioned unanimous decision loss to Tristan Connelly, Michel Pereira (23-10) scored a highlight reel flying knee KO win against Danny Roberts in his UFC debut, back in May 2019.
Now, the 26-year-old is scheduled to take on Diego Sanchez at UFC Fight Night 167, in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, on February 15. The card is expected to be headlined by a light heavyweight bout between contenders Corey Anderson and Jan Blachowicz.
