A mean left hook by Ryan Garcia ended Francisco Fonseca’s night early.
We have an early Knockout of the Year contender courtesy of one of the rising talents in world boxing.
Lightweight prospect Ryan Garcia (20-0, 17 KOs) headlined a Valentine’s Day show in Anaheim, CA against two-time junior lightweight world title challenger Francisco Fonseca (25-3-2, 19 KOs). The popular Golden Boy promoted fighter thrilled the crowd with a vicious left hook shot that had Fonseca out before he hit the canvas.

Garcia’s next opponent could be former lightweight champion Jorge Linares (47-5, 29 KOs), who picked up his own KO against Carlos Morales in the co-main event.

It seems as if Garcia’s public squabbling with Golden Boy is a thing of the past. His purse for this contest was $250,000, which is no small change for a 21-year-old who hasn’t even fought for a world title yet. A showdown with Linares would be easily the toughest and biggest fight of Ryan’s career. Garcia is already popular in California, with a big social media presence and considerable drawing power in terms of ticket sales. If he keeps improving under Eddy Reynoso, he is destined for stardom.
