Tyson Fury retained his lineal heavyweight title and became the new WBC heavyweight champion by stopping Deontay Wilder in the seventh round.

It was a rematch that didn’t need the judges’ scorecards this time, as Tyson Fury (30–0–1, 21 KOs) put on a clinic defeating Deontay Wilder (42–1–1, 41 KOs) by seventh round TKO to become the new WBC heavyweight champion.

Given the enormity of the fight it was an extremely tense start to the fight. Fury had a good first round, showing some great movement whilst pressing forward on Wilder. A jab from Fury landed clean on Wilder and backed him up. Wilder landed his first right hand but caught Fury right on the end of the punch.

Fury landed a jab-uppercut combination at the start of the third round that seemed to hurt Wilder for a moment. After referee Kenny Bayless broke the men from a clinch, Fury landed a left book followed by a right hand that dropped Wilder. “The Bronze Bomber” managed to get and beat the count as the fight went into the fourth round.

In the fifth round it was clear Wilder had still not recovered from the knockdown in the third. A left hook to the head then body from Fury connected clean and dropped Wilder for the second time in the fight. Fury was deducted a point at the end of the fifth round for holding on to Wilder’s neck.

Wilder continued to throw at air in the seventh round as it seemed only a matter of time before Fury was going to land the final blow. Having Wilder backed up in the corner against the ropes, Fury started to throw heavy punches to the body and the head and the referee was forced to stop the fight just as Wilder’s corner threw in the towel.
