The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation is back in the news cycle, but this time it has to do with Tito Ortiz vs. Alberto El Patron at Combate Americas.
Just as the drama surrounding the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) at UFC 247 dies down, the commission is raising more eyebrows for their handling of Tito Ortiz vs. Alberto El Patron.
Ortiz improved his professional record to 21-12-1 after beating former WWE champion El Patron (9-6) via first-round rear-naked choke. The fight took place under the Combate Americas banner back in December. Fast forward to Tuesday, and the TDLR has officially ruled the bout a “no decision.”
“The results of the fight were changed pending further investigation,” TDLR public information officer Tela Mange told MMA Junkie when reached for clarification. The changes were first made public in these official results paperwork. No more information was made public as the matter is “pending further investigation.”
Prior to the “no decision” ruling, Ortiz had improved his recent stretch to five of six with wins over El Patron, Chuck Liddell, Chael Sonnen, Stephan Bonnar and Alexander Shlemenko. His only loss in the last six years was a Bellator light-heavyweight title fight against Liam McGeary.
El Patron, meanwhile, had not competed in professional MMA in nine years prior to the Ortiz fight.
