Joseph Benavidez speaks candidly about his TKO loss to Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC Norfolk.
For the third time in his career, Joseph Benavidez was getting his chance to bag a UFC title . But like what happened in the past, he once again unsuccessful, this time losing via second-round TKO against Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC Norfolk on Saturday.
While clearly heartbroken and defeated, the 35-year-old flyweight fighter still managed to gather himself and speak with Michael Bisping during the post-fight Octagon interview.
“I feel like this isn’t real right now, that I’m in some freaking nightmare, honestly,” Benavidez said. “I had a lot of visions of talking to you after, and a lot of the things that were gonna happen that didn’t.
“Sh-t, man. Life’s tough like that, you know. Everybody’s going through ups and downs everywhere. This is mine. It’s on display.
“Just lucky to be alive, I guess,” he added. “I worked my ass off for that, and it didn’t go great.”
The flyweight division, however, still remains without a champion after Figueiredo missed weight by more than two pounds.
