UFC 248: “Adesanya vs. Romero” goes down TONIGHT (Sat., March 7, 2020), live on pay-per-view (PPV) from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, headlined by the middleweight showdown between Israel Adesanya (champion) and Yoel Romero (challenger). Round 2: Both of them moving a bit more. Romero counters a body kick with a booming overhand left that knocks Adesanya back. Adesanya head kick blocked a minute in. Both try to kick at once. Low kicks from Adesanya. Romero looks for a punch to the thigh. Two minutes in. Low kick again by the champ. He tries to spin. Low kick and blitz from Romero, some heavy left hands on the fence. Round 2: Right back to the exchanges, hard right cross from Jedrzejczyk. Good head movement to leg kick. Zhang with a combo upstairs. Jedrzejczyk takes her to the fence. gets reversed. Two minutes in. Jedrzejczyk with some nice knees, met by elbows from Zhang as they separate. Right cross lands for Zhang, big 1-2 seems to hurt Jedrzejczyk. Side kick to the face. Two minutes to go.

Zhang with an inside trip, can’t keep her down. Right hand from the challenger, good exchange. Jedrzejczyk with a front kick, eats a low kick. One minute to go. Cross counter by Zhang. Counter right from Jedrzejczyk answers a body kick. Jab from Zhang as Jedrzejczyk fires a 1-2. Head kick from Jedrzejczyk, who barrels into the clinch and fires knees. 155 lbs.: Beneil Dariush vs. Drakkar Klose

Round 1: Long left and body kick land for Dariush. Klose with a hard two-piece, eats a 1-2, lands a right. Nice exchanges. Dariush lands a nice left and takes him down on the fence. One minute in. Looking for the back, has it and gets the body triangle as he plays backpack. Dariush accuses Klose of grabbing his glove. Two minutes in. Klose successfully handfighting so far. Dariush looking to soften him up. Two minutes to go.

Dariush still fighting for the choke. He nearly has it as Klose handfights for his life. One minute to go. Klose manages to peel his grip off. 10-9 Dariush.

Round 2: Trading low kicks to start. Klose takes one to the groin for a brief pause. Lead right stings Dariush. Dariush tries a combo, gets plugged by a huge right hand. Klose coming in for the kill, gets cracked by a counter left. Right hook and now it’s Klose wobbling! They’re slugging it out and a massive left hand sends Klose teetering to the mat in one of the wildest sequences in recent memory.

Final result: Dariush def. Klose by KO (punch)


170 lbs.: Li Jingliang vs. Neil Magny

Round 1: Magny advancing, eats a leg kick. Both land right hands. One minute in. Li takes him to the fence, tries to wrench him down. Magny down, back up. Li separates with a big right hand that hurts Magny, then looks to open up. Magny responds with a shot two minutes in and takes Li down against the fence. Li back up, reverses position on the fence. Two minutes to go.

Now Li changes levels. Magny lands a knee downstairs and separates. Good jab from Magny, ties up on the fence. Nice knees. Li again changes levels, completes an outside trip into guard. One minute to go. Magny kicks him off and stands. Good knees from Magny as he presses forward, clean jabs. 10-9 Magny.

Round 2: Nice combination from Magny and a jumping knee to follow up. He puts Li on the fence, gets reversed. Now Magny reverses, denied by a fence grab. Good right hands from Magny a minute in. Li blatantly grabbing the fence. Now he changes levels, nearly gets pile-drived for his trouble. Two minutes in. Hard knee from Magny, reverses position. Good shoulder strike. He takes Li down into side control; Li back up, still controlled against the fence with two minutes to go.

Magny separates, lands a nice combo, ties up. Li again changes levels with a minute to go. Browne elbows from Magny. Nice knee on the break, piecing Li up on the fence. Left hook as Li hurt and Magny doesn’t want him to escape the round. He takes Li down directly into mount in the final seconds. 10-9 Magny.

Round 3: Magny immediately takes the center, lands leg kicks as Li looks for punches. Li going for it, eats a big left on the fence. Jab exchange. One minute in. More jabs from Magny. Li falls short, struggling to reach with his heavier punches. Magny with a nice level change on the fence, denied. Li transitions to a rear waist lock, tries a head kick on the break. Back to the jabs goes Magny. Two minutes in. Li falls short with a left hook. Li low kick, Magny combination. Low kick from Magny. Li reaches him with a left hook, gets pressed against the fence. They separate with two minutes to go.

Magny grabs double underhooks, trips him to the mat. Good left hands. Piling up. One minute to go. Magny looking for the back. More punches, knee to the butt, elbows to the body as Li stands. 10-9 Magny.

170 lbs.: Max Griffin vs. Alex Oliveira

Round 1: Griffin on the front foot early, lands a pair of right hands. Counter rights from Oliveira. Griffin to the body, eats a body kick. Big right cross by Oliveira, who takes Griffin to the fence. One minute in. They separate. Oliveira sending out 1-2s, lands a front kick downstairs. He really wants the counter uppercut. Both whiff on 1-2s. Big shot from Griffin two minutes in and Oliveira ties up, getting taken down into full guard. Short punches from Griffin as Oliveira holds on. Two minutes to go.

Oliveira just holding Griffin close, waiting for a standup. One minute to go. Oliveira rolls to his knees and stands, Griffin looking for the back. Oliveira sweeps him with a kimura and stands. 10-9 Griffin.

Round 2: Griffin comes out jabbing, takes a front kick downstairs. Hard low kicks by the Brazilian. Still fishing for the counter uppercut. Stiff jab lands for Griffin. He ties up after avoiding a long right and Oliveira changes levels. Well-defended and he separates. Ref pauses the action to look at a nasty cut on Griffin. Low kicks from Oliveira. Two minutes in. To the inside this time, then a nasty lead right two minutes in. Both miss with right straights. Griffin shoots, denied. Two minutes to go.

Oliveira looks for a spinning elbow on the break. Body kick from Griffin. Griffin shoots again, denied again after Oliveira briefly threatens a guillotine. Oliveira wants a single-leg. One minute to go. They separate. Oliveira with another low kick. Front kicks to the body. Superman punch. Griffin tries to spin and Oliveira shoots, denied. 10-9 Oliveira.

Round 3: Griffin coming on strong, eats an uppercut and front kick. Oliveira goes high, follows it with a right cross and ties up, looking for a takedown. Good defense from Griffin and he changes levels. Oliveira warned for elbows to the back of the head. One minute in. They separate. Griffin changes levels, catches Oliveira coming in with a knee, but ends up on his back. Oliveira moves to mount against the fence. Griffin regains half guard. Back to mount, hard GnP. Oliveira goes too high looking for the back and gets swept with two minutes to go.

Griffin now on top in half guard, landing short shots. One minute to go. Oliveira just holding on. Now some hard elbows from Griffin. 10-9 Oliveira.

135 lbs.: Sean O’Malley vs. Jose Quinonez

Round 1: Trading kicks to start, teep knocks Quinonez over. Quinonez answers a low kick with a 1-2. O’Malley body kick, slips the counter. Spinning back kick downstairs. Quinonez still pursuing a minute in. Quinonez leg kick, eats a body kick. O’Malley 1-2. Check hook catches Quinonez coming in and O’Malley rocks him on the way up with a head kick, following up with heavy punches for the finish.

Final result: O’Malley def. Quinonez by TKO (head kick and punches)


155 lbs.: Austin Hubbard vs. Mark Madsen

Round 1: Hubbard spins him around with a low kick and lands a right hand behind it. Madsen on the advance, fires a 1-2. He ties up off a Hubbard right hand and hits a beautiful suplex, putting in a hook as Hubbard tries to stand. Hubbard makes it up, dragged back down a minute in. Looking to scoot to the fence on his knees. He makes it back to his feet, eats a right hand. Two minutes in. Madsen trying to snap him down. They separate. Hubbard still targeting the lead leg. Madsen ties up and takes him down into side control. Two minutes to go.

Hubbard gets to his knees, gets rolled over by a Japanese necktie. Madsen forces him back to his back, takes half guard. Full guard with a minute to go. Hubbard makes space and stands, throwing on the break. Madsen wades in behind punches. 10-9 Madsen.

Round 2: Hubbard showing lots of feints, eats a right hand on the break and gets taken down into half guard. One minute in. Hubbard tries to sit up, scoots to the fence. He stands, dragged back to his knees. Back up, manages to separate two minutes in. Hubbard to the body with a glancing left. Right hand lands, head kick blocked. Madsen ducks a right hand and trips him to the mat against the fence. Hammerfists land for Madsen with two minutes to go.

Front headlock now. He wrenches Hubbard down and briefly looks for an anaconda before trying to spin to the back. Hubbard separates and stands. Jab from Madsen with a minute to go. Hubbard low kick. Combination falls short, leg kick lands. Hubbard tries to time him coming in with a knee, eats a right. 10-9 Madsen.

Round 3: Hubbard sends out an early barrage, but ultimately gets taken down into guard. Hubbard back up in a hurry, gets caught by a vicious knee as he changes levels. He somehow keeps his wits about him and takes him to the fence a minute in. Hubbard separates, eats a big right hand. Low kick, another knee by Hubbard. Big uppercut. Two minutes in. Hubbard constantly timing the level change, fires a knee and lands an uppercut. Nasty left hand to the body. Hubbard forcing him back, staying patient. Corkscrew upper and leg kick, but Madsen manages to tie up and drag him down. Two minutes to go.

Hubbard gets to a knee, Madsen still attached. Back to his feet. He breaks the grip and separates with a minute to go. Good right hand by Hubbard. Hubbard low kick, eats a jab. He tries a flying knee, lands a right hand. Madsen still throwing back. Hubbard with some level elbows. Out of time. 10-9 Hubbard.

185 lbs.: Saparbek Safarov vs. Rodolfo Vieira

Round 1: Vieira looking to jab early. Low kick from Safarov. Front kick suddenly stings Vieira and Safarov looks to pursue. Vieira responds with a takedown attempt, denied via whizzer. He shoots in again, powers through a guillotine to land on top in side control, then immediately takes the back a minute in. One hook in. Safarov told off by the ref for grabbing Vieira’s glove. Tow minutes in. Both hooks, looking for the choke. He moves to mount, landing a heavy elbow. There’s the arm triangle and it’s over.

Final result: Vieira def. Safarov by submission (arm triangle choke)


185 lbs.: Gerald Meerschaert vs. Deron Winn

Round 1: Winn on the advance, eats a body kick and 1-2. Shin catches Winn in the jewels. Back to the action, more straight lefts from Meerschaert. Low kick lands. Big left hook from Winn, brief clinch. One minute in. 1-2 from Meerschaert, Winn ties up and foot weeps him to the mat. Winn stands over him, lets him stand. Hard knee by Winn, looks to open up on the fence. Meerschaert continues to land left hands. Body kick. Two minutes in. Hard left from Meerschaert. Winn with a glancing head kick and stiff jab. Winn body kick blocked, right hand slips around the guard. Meerschaert with another left hand. Two minutes to go.

Round 2: Emmers tries a flying knee, misses. Good right hand, Chikadze comes back with a left. Emmers body kick. One minute in. Counter right. Overhand left by Chikadze, Brazilian kick behind it. Good combo by Chikadze, Emmers ducks a left hand for a high-amplitude takedown into half guard. Two minutes in. Emmers working to pass, can’t quite get the knee out. Nice sweep by Chikadze to land on top in guard. Good two-piece and a left behind it as Emmers stands, but he puts a finger in Emmers’ eye in the process. They resume in the center and Chikadze stuffs a shot. 1-2-3 hurts Emmers, who responds with a nice entry for double underhooks. Two minutes to go.

Knee to the body from Emmers. Chikadze reverses position on the fence and separates. Emmers lands a body kick. One minute to go. They trade kicks and Emmers shoots, fires a knee on the break. Chikadze tries a head kick. 1-1-2 cracks Chikadze. Emmers looks for his own head kick. 10-9 Emmers.

Round 3: Good two-piece from Chikadze to start. Emmers sending out his jab and right hand. Body kick lands. Straight right. Chikadze stuffs a takedown. One minute in.
