[CW: The following article details reports of sexual assault]
Yesterday testimony began in the sexual assault trial of UFC welterweight Abdul Razak Alhassan in Fort Worth, TX (per the Forth Worth Star-Telegram). Alhassan was indicted on two counts of rape after an incident that is alleged to have taken place on March 23rd, 2018.
One of the women accusing Alhassan of rape was known to him. She said she had come to the establishment Alhassan worked at and asked him to let her friend, who was 20 at the time, into the club’s restricted area.
She said Alhassan obliged and then asked her what she would do for him. The woman said she gave Alhassan her phone number, thinking she would block his number later on.
After drinking and dancing, the older woman said that she kissed Alhassan outside of the bar’s storage room. A witness said they saw both women leave the bar storage room with Alhassan at one point in the night. After this both women continued to drink and were observed being very intoxicated.
Witnesses said that when both women left the club, the younger woman passed out on the older woman’s lap as they looked to secure a ride home. At this time, it is alleged, Alhassan asked an off-duty police officer to help him get the women into a vehicle. That officer declined to help.
The court heard that Alhassan then allegedly loaded the two women into a vehicle by himself and then took them to the younger woman’s home in Saginaw, TX.
The younger woman told the court that Alhassan raped her at her home, just steps away from the room in which her parents were sleeping. The woman said she never saw Alhassan during the assault and was too traumatized to call out for help.
“When he put my face in the bed, the room was completely dark,” she said. “That’s when I found out there was a guy in my room. He pulled my dress up and sexually assaulted me. All I could see is my bed.”
The younger woman then accused Alhassan of raping the older woman, who was sleeping on a different bed inside the same room.
The younger woman said she woke her mother the next morning because she thought something was wrong with her friend. The woman and her mother had difficulty waking the friend and discovered that she had both her legs through one leg hole of her underwear and that the underwear was inside out. A used condom was discovered close by.
The mother then took both women to John Peter Smith Hospital, where the older woman received a sexual assault exam. The mother handed a plastic bag containing the woman’s underwear and the condom over to police.
Alhassan was indicted of two counts of sexual assault on September 24th, 2018. His indictment came weeks after his last UFC fight, versus Niko Price at UFC 228. Alhassan had fought with the UFC since 2016.
Testimony in his trial is expected to continue tomorrow.
Despite repeated requests from Bloody Elbow, the UFC has not commented on Alhassan’s indictment. The UFC has also not answered questions regarding whether Alhassan remains contracted to the promotion.
