A big heavyweight showdown is coming to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, as ESPN is reporting that Curtis Blaydes and Alexander Volkov are set to headline the upcoming UFC Fight Night 177 event, which is set to go down on June 20, 2020.
Winner of three straight, Blaydes is adamant he is ready for his shot at the strap, especially after disposing of Junior dos Santos and Shamil Abdurakhimov via knockout in back-to-back fights. In fact, since 2016, the only two losses “Razor” has on his record are to Francis Nganouu. Other than that, he is a perfect 8-0 in his UFC career.
Since a trilogy fight between division king, Stipe Miocic, and former champion, Daniel Cormier, doesn’t seem to be in the works anytime soon, Curtis opted to take another fight in the interim, which is always a roll of the dice, especially when you have someone like Volkov standing in front of you.
Alexander got back on the winning track in his last outing by defeating Greg Hardy in November of last year. That was a year removed from his knockout loss to Derrick Lewis at UFC 229.
Winner of seven of his last eight, “Drago” is eying a championship fight of his own, and a win over Blaydes could be his ticket to the big dance.
