Lightweight veteran Edson Barboza wants to move on from his time in the Octagon.
In an unexpected turn of events, it seems Edson Barboza is no longer headed to the featherweight division and wants no more business in the Octagon altogether.
After saying he would try his hand in the 145 divison a few months ago, seasoned lightweight veteran Edson Barboza wrote a message to his bosses on his personal Twitter, asking to be released from his contract. He did not explain the reason why he wants to be let go, only claiming he has little time to wait.
I’m very thankful for these almost 10 years that I have been working for the company! I gave my best every single fight to put on a show for the fans, but I think it’s time to move on. I don’t have more time to wait. Please let me go.@ufc @seanshelby @danawhite

Currently on a two-fight losing skid, Edson Barboza (20-8) dropped a split decision in a rematch with Paul Felder in his last outing, back in September 2019. Before that, he was knocked out by Justin Gaethje in March of the same year. The 34-year-old’s last win dates back to December 2018, when he TKO’d Dan Hooker.
Should Edson leave the UFC for good, he will leave behind a 14-8 record that dates all the way back to November 2010. He has wins over some of lightweight’s most notable names such as Anthony Pettis, Gilbert Melendez, Paul Felder and Dan Hooker. During this period, the Brazilian picked up seven ‘Fight of the Night’ bonuses, too.
